Rutgers University had the rare opportunity to be pioneers in the medical Marijuana Industry.  Gov. Christie had hoped they would seize the opportunity and produce the Marijuana or various teaching hospitals to sell.

Rutgers response to the offer was that they are significantly tied up in federal funding and fear that they would put that in jeopardy if they engaged in this opportunity.   They suggested that they have over $500 million in federal funds driving a variety of programs such as work study to research, grants, and loans.

It was noted that Rutgers had the DEA’s approval and was the ONLY school to obtain such a status.
