More and more students are facing housing shortages in the new school year. Many universities do not have enough rooms to house everyone who needs one. Some students consider themselves lucky to have found an apartment or roommate off campus.
Some university housing is completely booked and availability in surrounding areas is limited. Most schools do not have enough housing for all their students but with record enrollments the problem has increased even more.
Off campus housing is sometimes preferred by students as it gives them additional freedom and typically more space. However, having to commute to and from campus has its own challenges.
