Dry Creek Valley Healdsburg California 95448 United States

Okay, now I have to make good on that title …………… Easy.
Let’s start with location………. California Wine Country. Sonoma Wine Country. I swear the most beautiful valley in Northern California. Literally looks like Tuscany! Sweeping views of vineyard and hillside. Great majestic oaks You are 15 minutes from the outrageous restaurants and sophisticated art and shops of HEALDSBURG. You are 5 minutes from the swimming, boating, fishing, hiking of LAKE SONOMA. You are in the DRY CREEK VALLEY !
This is a great place for a family to live; a great place for a retired couple to live; a great place for a couple and a grandparent who wants their own separate cottage; a great place for a group of friends who want to share a truly beautiful, truly outstanding property.
The property itself is historic since it is what is left of the very extensive holdings of a once famous Dry Creek family. It is basically their homestead after 100s of acres of vineyard, fruit and nut tree, and other agricultural holdings were sold off in the 50s and 60s. There is a bit more than 9 ACRES of hilly, rolling, land which is not planted with any agriculture.
And the house …………. If you are a person who responds strongly to architecture, to shape and to light, to angle and to texture ……… prepare to be dazzled ! Set in behind a long rammed earth wall the house is FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT prairie style architecture. Of course not the real thing. But a stunning imitation done by a superb craftsman in 1920.
For starters picture a large porch with overhanging roof across the front. Another porch connects to this on the side of the house. A large portico. Wide rectangular stairs broaden as they drift down from the front porch into a big landscaped lawn. Bordered by a great bamboo hedge. Lots of garden.
Inside …………. very rare wood used in the paneling and in the cabinets, the mantle, and the sliding doors of the living room, the dining room, and the front hall. It’s dazzling stuff ! MISSISSIPPI RED GUM WOOD from 1920. Likely you’ve never seen it. (And you won’t forget it ! )
In the dining room with its built-in cabinets there is also a chandelier hand made by famed stained glass designer THEODORE ELISON who also made three wonderful stained glass windows for the central bath.
Upstairs …….. which in typical Wright fashion is the only room upstairs ……… there is another bath. Large and outrageously, delightfully, ART DECO .
Back downstairs a HUGE GOURMET KITCHEN with literally breathtaking tiger maple floors from a tiny New England mill. Bottocino counters. Two separate sink areas. All new VIKING APPLIANCES. Stunning lighting. In the kitchen itself there is a large skylight and in the pantry hallway leading off the kitchen there is another very high and interestingly angled SKYLIGHT.
On the other side of the house is a long SUN ROOM (with two more skylights) leading out through french doors to another porch and another landscape looking out on the CREEK that runs through the property.
Then ………. attached from the back of the house by a breezeway ………. there is a SEPARATE COTTAGE/STUDIO. Cute, stylish, with its own kitchen. A wood burning stove. And a fun bath with a huge, high, tiled shower. There are two skylights in the main room and a skylight above the shower.
In the main house there are THREE MEDIUM SIZED BEDROOMS AND THE TWO BATHS. And in the studio another bedroom and another bath. In addition there is a very large THREE CAR GARAGE; an old root cellar built into a hillside which is now serving as a main feature in a developing asian garden. And there is an old tack house for tool, etc storage.
Throughout the house is fitted with wonderful antique, hand made, and gorgeous modern lighting that highlights the architecture.
The house will RENT FOR $5000. It will be available for occupation the end of January.
